By using our VPN access, your client receives an IP address from the area of the TU Kaiserslautern, so that services that are otherwise only accessible from within the TU can subsequently be accessed externally. The data traffic of your computer, smartphone or tablet is transmitted to the TU Kaiserslautern in an encrypted, secured tunnel.
Members of the university can use the VPN access for yet another purpose. In the case of the "full tunnel," all data traffic first passes through the tunnel before finding its way to the actual destination. The protection achieved in this way is particularly recommended in untrusted networks or in third-party networks (e.g. public hotspots).
